Deciding Which Type Of Wedding Rings To Wear
Wedding rings are bought by happy couples as they are about to embark upon their lives together as a married couple. These rings symbolise the unity they are pledging, as they move from being single to being married. To demonstrate this oneness by choosing wedding bands, the couple will select ones that they anticipate will last for years to come. High quality, long lasting rings tend to be made of one of a few different types of metal, and if they have any gems, the gems tend to be diamonds. Here is a look at the commonly used metals that most couples select when purchasing their bands.

Most couples still choose gold when they are selecting their bands. Whether one or both of them chooses a plain gold band, or something that is more ornate, a gold wedding band remains a timeless, high quality choice.
Gold rings, as is the case with most metals, come in a variety of different karats, which measures the purity of the gold. Gold that is not entirely pure falls below 24 karats. A wedding ring made of 100% pure gold is 24 karats. Interestingly, rings that are less than 24 karats are actually somewhat more durable for long-term wear than are the 24 karat gold ones.

Another type of gold ring that couples sometimes choose for their wedding rings is a white gold ring. Unlike gold, which is yellow in colour, white gold is silver in colour, and is usually made from the combination of yellow gold and at least one white metal, such as nickel. Some people have been known to have an allergic reaction to the nickel in these types of white gold rings, which is usually not much more than a skin rash. If this is the case, the couple who chooses white gold for their rings will want to make sure that their rings are made with another white metal besides nickel.

Another type of wedding ring that is gaining popularity is platinum. Platinum rings tend to be more costly than gold rings, because the metal is more precious and harder to come by. Like white gold, platinum is silver in colour, and is considered to be resistant to tarnish and wear, and is ideal for the manufacture of fine jewelry such as wedding bands.

Wedding rings are also being made with titanium. Titanium is considered to be a great metal for something like a wedding ring, which will probably be worn daily for decades, because it is so incredibly strong, yet very lightweight. Like white gold and platinum, titanium is silver in colour.

Some wedding rings are made with a combination of the metals mentioned above - yellow gold, white gold, platinum, and/or titanium. Also, a good many rings are created with precious gems such as diamonds. There is a wide variety of wedding bands from which to choose; whether it is a plain gold band, or a ring with a combination of metals, diamonds, and even intricate carvings and contours, the rings that a couple chooses will be a reflection of them as individuals and as a couple.
